Children, Art and Wellbeing

These artworks feature acrylics on canvas or printed material, enhanced by collage techniques that help tell the narrative of certain children's stories. The layered transfers, illustrate the struggles and resilience of these children—concealing complex identities in Part 1 and revealing the impact of care and opportunities in Part 2.

My mother's sewing offcuts are incorporated, showing an eco-conscious aspect, adding sentimental value and emphasising themes of love and nurturing for children in her pieces.

Part 1.

How it is for some children.

This part explores the lives of children in out-of-home care, emphasising their lack of opportunities, care, nurturing, and love that every child deserves. These children require empowering opportunities to nurture their confidence and become self-assured individuals. It is our collective responsibility as a community to support their wellbeing, boost their self-esteem, and guide them towards a fulfilling and enriched adulthood.

Part 2

How it should be for all children.

This part delves into envisioning the lives of the children highlighted in Part 1, painting a picture of the ideal circumstances they should experience. In this scenario, these children are provided with the opportunities they rightfully deserve, allowing their overall wellbeing to flourish. Through the consistent presence of love, nurturing, quality education, and a peaceful, supportive home setting, their lives are set on a trajectory of continual enhancement and growth.
