ARTIST PROFILE
Fiona Johnston
Fiona Johnston grew up in the suburbs of Melbourne and currently resides on the Bellarine Peninsula. She has a deep appreciation for family, community, children, and nature. Fiona aims to extend her artwork beyond her studio and into the community. She wants to positively impact the community by exhibiting her artwork and conducting art workshops for underprivileged children.
Although Fiona has always been passionate about art, she embarked on formal art studies after leaving the corporate world and moving to the Bellarine Peninsula. She has since achieved Certificates II, III, and IV in Visual Arts and is undertaking a Bachelor of Design Arts at LCI Melbourne, majoring in Visual Arts.
Watercolour is her preferred medium, developing an abstract style. She also enjoys working with acrylics and creating monoprints. Using her art studio as a playground for experimentation, Fiona strives to create light, depth, and contrast in her loose artworks. She enjoys the unpredictable nature of transfers or mono printing and the unique outcomes they produce. Fiona finds inspiration in various aspects of life, including family, her personal experiences, travel, gallery visits, other artists, and nature. She sees her surroundings in a new light and captures their beauty through her warm and vibrant colour palette. While her artwork is not overtly political, it can be complex as she chooses subjects that resonate with her and reflect her beliefs.
As her artwork evolves, so do her ideas, techniques, and creative possibilities for the future. She looks forward to exploring different styles and pushing the boundaries of her artistic capabilities. Fiona is available for commissions and sells her work on Etsy.
